China/Africa: 1,000th rail/ship intermodal trip

The jubilee train, loaded with porcelain and other goods, was dispatched from Hunan in China and is now en route to Africa. The Hunan-Guangdong-Africa intermodal connection is China's first passage using Africa-bound rail and sea services.

Departing from the CRRC Zhuzhou Logistics Park in China, the trains run to Shekou ports in Guangzhou (China) where the goods are transferred onto ocean-going cargo ships for the next lap of the journey.

Since the launch in 2021, the amount of these services has increased rapidly. Only ten trips were made from September to December 2021. In 2023, their number had reached 460, and 288 journeys were recorded in H1/2024. (ben)
