Checking freight wagons as they roll past
An AI technology extract the status and, more recently, other important operating data as the train rolls past marshalling yards.
DB Cargo is already using the thirteen existing camera bridges installed at Germany’s eight largest freight yards for this purpose. The cameras record images of passing freight wagons, which are then analysed by the AI for damage.
With a new feature, the technology can now also read and analyse the most important data, such as the wagons’ tare weight, brakes and load dimensions, in a matter of seconds. This check is required by law. The new AI technology is now being tested throughout Germany and is intended to speed up and facilitate the provision of freight wagons. (ben)
