Channel Tunnel: almost one million trucks
Le Shuttle Freight shipped 106,930 trucks in August 2022, an uptick of 1% compared to the 105,704 trucks in August 2021. Almost 1 million trucks have crossed the Channel aboard the shuttles since 1 January 2022.
Compared to the same period last year truck volumes increased by 14%, or from 868,631 trucks in 2021 to 989,475 in 2022.
Since the opening of the Channel Tunnel in 1994, Le Shuttle Freight, an affiliate of Getlink Group, has carried more than 32 million trucks on board.
With the truck service, commercial vehicles cross the tunnel with 140km/h in 35 minutes. It is available 24/7 and 365 days a year with up to one departure every ten minutes at peak times. (ben)
