Cause of plane crash still unknown

A week ago today, on 15 September 2021, a DHC-6 Twin Otter 300, which the Indonesian cargo airline Rimbun Air, a subsidiary of PT Menara Grand Papua, had taken over only in February this year, crashed near the airport at Intan Jaya in Indonesia. The causes of the accident are still uncertain.

The 45-year old aircraft, which had departed from Nabire Airport (NBX) barely an hour earlier, lost radio contact during the landing approach to Bilogai Airport (UGU).

A few hours later, the wreckage was found in the dense rainforest at 2,500 m above sea level - the three people on board could only be recovered dead. Initial reports said the plane was carrying "construction material". According to local media, police are investigating indications of violations of cargo regulations. (ah)
