Biomethane fuels emission reduction programme

United European Car Carriers (UECC) and Titan Clean Fuels have strengthened their commitment to sustainability with a landmark agreement to supply UECC’s multi-fuel vessels with biomethane (LBM/bio-LNG) through 2024 and most of 2025, marking the largest ongoing LBM commitment in shipping.

Since July 2024, over 95% of fuel delivered to UECC’s pure car and truck carriers has been LBM, avoiding over 30,000 t of greenhouse gas emissions. The 2025 LBM supply is expected to cut more than 75,000 t of emissions, equivalent to the annual emissions of 10,000 EU citizens.

The transition supports UECC's 'sail for change' strategy, exceeding Fuel EU Maritime carbon intensity targets and enabling overcompliance in its fleet. Titan credits robust infrastructure and mass balancing for achieving this scale, urging wider adoption of biomethane in shipping. The initiative aligns with UECC’s investment in future multi-fuel car carriers and reinforces its LNG-to-LBM pathway for sustainable shipping. (pb)
