Berth navigation digitally enhanced

A ship mooring measurement system (Sams) is being installed at the Stromkaje in the overseas port in Bremerhaven. It is designed to provide digital support for mooring manoeuvres at the Stromkaje. The project is funded by the German federal ministry for digital affairs and transport.

Transport minister Volker Wissing came to Bremerhaven for the launch of the project and to hand over the funding notification. Wissing: "Now the use of the port can be optimally planned, port charges can be settled, or ships can be navigated more easily. We are currently setting up such real laboratories at 15 locations, and six more projects are being prepared."

With its 58 sensors installed in the area of the container terminals at the Stromkaje, the digital test field will be used to prevent wear and tear on the quays or damage caused by mistakes during a ship's mooring manoeuvres. (sh)
