Autonomous trucks soon on Europe's roads
Truck manufacturer Iveco and technology company Plus have successfully completed the first phase of their autonomous truck pilot project with tests on closed routes.
Now the next stage of development is being prepared for the S-WAY vehicle with Level 4 technology: The first tests on public roads will be conducted with a backup driver behind the wheel for safety reasons.
The trials are to take place in several European countries - including Germany, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. The differences in terrain, road gradient, weather and driving scenarios will help to continually expand the capabilities and functions of Plus's autonomous driving technology, the manufacturer says.
