Automated storage on 800 sqm

Hongkong Electric has installed an all-new automated storage and retrieval system manufactured by Lödige Industries, a Germany-based systems supplier, in its electric tower in Ap Lei Chau.

The new system includes an elevating transfer vehicle (ETV) to handle heavy cable drums and transformers. The site’s storage area of 800 sqm cannot be extended, so a four-level solution was devised. The ETV enables the company to use up to 293 storage positions and store 5.3 t cable drums safely.

Hongkong Electric has been providing the island with electricity since 1890 and maintains an electricity supply rating of more than 99.999%. With its focus on heavy goods movement and material handling, Lödige Industries was able to create and implement a modern and efficient solution in a limited storage space. (mk)
