Apprenticeships are vital

At the end of this year's national apprenticeship week, the British International Freight Association (Bifa) calls upon freight forwarding and logistics companies to recruit apprentices, underlining their difficulties to find suitable options for professional training with the pandemic and Brexit.

The Bifa claims that the decline in apprenticeships does not only affect the freight industry, but that it is apparent across the country as well.

Carl Hobbis, an executive director of BIFA, says that “there has been a sharp decline in the number of individuals that have started their journey on the international freight forwarding specialist apprenticeship.” He insists: “Forwarding businesses have many difficult commercial decisions to make, but shelving apprenticeships should not be one of them.”

Bifa helped to create the international freight forwarding specialist apprenticeship in 2018, which has proved to be good point of entry, having already brought 500 apprentices to take this pathway. (amh)
