A first for "Whiteland"
The ro-ro vessel “Whiteland” recently called the Port of Umm Qasr (Iraq), which is operated by Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (Ictsi). It is the first direct freight link between the United Arab Emirates and Iraq, operated by DP World. The route connects Jebel Ali (Dubai) with Umm Qasr.
This service complements Iraq’s fast-growing economy and offers a more efficient trade route than export and import cargo transiting through neighbouring countries: the usual period for cross-border land transport is 14 days, but now the seaborne service offers a significantly reduced alternative travel time of only 36 hours from the Port of Jebel Ali to the Port of Umm Qasr.
