76 biogas trucks expand UK fleet
XPO has started taking delivery of 76 Volvo FM trucks in the UK. The vehicles will be used in the haulier’s contract with building materials supplier British Gypsum. 23 of the new 6x2 tractor units are Volvo FM LNGs, running on bio-LNG, while the other 53 will be fuelled with HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil).
Greenhouse gas emissions will thus be reduced by about 90% versus diesel tractors, with a total network reduction of 30%, Volvo said. It is expected that the LNGs will clock up 150,000 km a year. The vehicles will refuel at Gasrec’s flagship site at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal. (ben)
