40 freight locomotives delivered
Azerbaijan Railways recently received the last two of a total of 40 Prima freight locomotives produced by Alstom. The locomotives will be put into operation initially on the Baku-Boyuk Kesik and Bilajari-Yalama sections of the east-west and north-south transport corridors.
The average weight of the freight trains to be powered by the new freight locomotives will be increased to 4,500 t, which will reduce the number of locomotives involved in freight transport and additional shunting operations.
The 40 new AC freight locomotives Az8A were produced in Kazakhstan. The Prima T8 (AZ8A) locomotive, running at 120 km/h, can tow up to 9,000 t. (ben)
