15 years in Japan for the Marshall Islands registry

The fleet of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) registry stood at 193.8 million grt on 30 September, and 7.4% of that is Japanese-owned or operated. Since 2007, the Tokyo office of International Registries Inc (IRI) , which provides support to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) fleet in Asia and the world, has provided marine safety, technical, and operational services to shipowners and operators in Japan.

Masaharu Okamoto, IRI’s chief representative in Japan, said on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of working in the country that “the RMI registry was the first foreign flag to open full technical and administrative services in Japan. It soon expanded and opened a second office in Imabari.”

IRI runs eleven offices in the Far East, in Busan, Dalian, Hong Kong, Imabari, Manila, Qingdao, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo, and provides bridge support from Vancouver (Canada) and Long Beach (USA). (sh)
