100 m long steel tracks delivered by rail

DB Cargo UK and British Steel have launched a major campaign to transport 100 m long rail tracks to Belgium. The first consignment from British Steel’s site at Scunthorpe (UK) arrived in Muizen, northeast of Brussels (Belgium), after a three-day journey.

The enormous pieces of 100 m long steel track will be used by the infrastructure manager Infrabel for Belgium’s rail network. DB Cargo UK completed the first leg of the journey from Scunthorpe to Calais (France), with its French sister company DB Cargo France fulfilling the second leg up to Muizen.

The work will involve an average of one train running every month, depending on the customer’s needs, for the next four years. (ben)
