Dear readers,
Is your business in full swing yet this year? Just remember that the next twelve months are still long – the ’Year of the Snake’, which has just started, is actually 13 months long, and won’t end until 16 February 2026.
People born under the sign of the snake, that is most recently in 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977, 1965, 1953, 1941 and 1929, are often said to achieve professional success and prosperity through their ability to overcome challenges intuitively.
Intuition is more needed than ever before in the transport and logistics industry these days, especially now that its typical cycles has been disrupted and (often human-made) events with global consequences cloud the predictability of events and the concomitant decisions.
Said events can include wars or terrorist attacks, more complicated border crossings for people and goods, damage caused by climate change, bushfires, earthquakes or volcanic eruptions – sadly, the list seems almost endless.
Not all unforeseen events are negative, of course. In the fifth calendar week, airfreight volumes from Latin America and Africa to the Asia-Pacific region, for example, increased by 16% and 11% respectively, compared to the previous week.
The main reason for this was high export volumes of cut flowers, in preparation for Valentine’s Day – on which I hope that positive feelings will prevail.
This issue is also published on 14 February. Here’s to a positive read!
Yours,
Andreas Haug
