WRS investing in new locomotive type
Siemens has received a first order for its Vectron locomotives equipped with a battery module. The module allows the engine to operate over short distances without an overhead power line and thus offer an eco-friendly way to cover the last mile of a service and carry out shunting runs without an overhead line.
These first two new model locomotives were ordered by JeMyn AG, an affiliate of Widmer Rail Services, from Switzerland. Delivery is planned for 2027. The locomotives will strengthen Widmer’s fleet, which offers traction, shunting and train preparation solutions, as well as services in the field of construction site logistics. (ben)
