UP’s KCIT to open in mid-2025

The new Kansas City Intermodal Terminal (KCIT) will be located west of downtown Kansas City, MO (USA) on an existing property of the class I railway and will serve both domestic and international containerised shipments of grains, consumer goods, refrigerated products, and pet foods.

The rail-road-transload facility is the fourth new intermodal ramp Union Pacific (UP) has built in the past few years. It will help to convert more truck traffic to rail, reduce congestion on the nation’s highways, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, the railway said.

KCIT will include UP’s PGT gating system allowing truckers to quickly enter and exit the ramp. The new intermodal terminal is expected to open in mid-2025. (ben)
