Terminal to be adapted to changing needs

HPC has put forward operational development design plans for the BILK intermodal terminal in Budapest, Hungary. This proposal indicates that there is a real need to adapt the facility to the changing requirements of the railway companies.

The assessment includes, inter alia, a study of current terminal capacity and an analysis of parameters such as a reduction in unit dwell times and train turnarounds, changes in modal unit volume splits and traffic types as well as safety issues. BILK is a main hub of Rail Cargo Group.

The intermodal terminal currently handles mainly maritime containers, for which it was initially designed, but the demand for handling trailers and other continental traffic is significantly increasing. (ben)
