Taranto's Yilport terminal now multimodal

Now that the Port of Taranto has restarted the railway line connection between the port’s multi-purpose pier and the national network, the San Cataldo Container Terminal operated by Yilport has launched its multimodal business.

The first intermodal freight train travelled along the Bari–Taranto section. It was run in cooperation with the railway operator GTS and the support of the railway company Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal.

Rail traffic has now been resumed connecting Taranto and the Adriatic route, by means of a bundle of five loading/unloading lines. The trains cross the Italian Peninsula and reach Northern Europe in a short time. The Molo Polisettoriale in Taranto boasts two shunting locomotives, gantry cranes and certified railway shunting operators. (sh)
