Switch to rail saves 2,600 t in emissions

Audi Brussels (Belgium) has contracted DB Cargo to deliver components for battery production from its Hungarian supplier by rail. The first rail transports are already running and the switch from truck to rail is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of 2023.

Until now, battery modules and cells needed in Belgium were transported by truck over the 1,300 km long route from the supplier in Hungary - twelve to 15 fully loaded vehicles every day. The switch of the truck caravan to rail will reduce carbon emissions by 2,600 t per year.

The supplier of the battery modules in Hungary does not have its own rail siding. DB Cargo therefore recently put a transload facility into operation at the Győr location to serve Audi’s project. (ben)
