Sustainable timber deliveries

The German carrier DB Cargo recently completed its first rail deliveries of timber to Leuna, Germany, for UPM Biochemicals, establishing and testing the direct rail link to the company’s timber yard.

The facility is scaling refineries to produce a variety of renewable fuels and chemicals made from sustainable biomass. UPM is investing EUR 1,180 million in the location to convert sustainably sourced, certified hardwood into next generation biochemicals – enabling more companies to shift from fossil-based to renewable materials in a wide range of industries.

DB Cargo is a long-standing partner for timber transports in the rail sector and has been handling UPM’s paper and pulp freight for several years. (ben)
