Short sea link speeds up rail traffic

While demand for overseas traffic has declined as a consequence of the Covid-19 crisis, there is a growing need for rail transport along the New Silk Road.

The Group of European TransEurasia Operators and Forwarders (GETO) and the International Coordinating Council on Trans-Eurasian Transportation (CCTT) have now intensified their cooperation to further enhance the performance of transcontinental rail transport.

Specifically, rail routes have now been linked with short sea connections through the ports of Mukran and Rostock in Germany and Baltijsk and Kaliningrad in Russia. GETO and CCTT: these new offers for intermodal traffic complement existing railfreight services and speed up rail traffic between Europe and China. (ben)
