Short line railroad RDR now in operation

The US railfreight operator Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) has launched its first railroad in western Canada. The Red Deer Railway (RDR) runs in the province of Alberta from Jackson to Homeglen and uses operating rights over Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).

A direct interchange with CPKC in Red Deer provides access to the North American railfreight network, while RDR’s railcar storage capacity, railcar-to-truck transloading and railcar switching capabilities offer broader logistics services.

In addition to its other ten railroads, G&W’s Canadian operations include the railcar maintenance and repair shop Railcare in Ontario and the locomotive facility BMS in Alberta. (ben)
