Shipping giants optimise freight routes
The Gemini Cooperation, a joint venture between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk, will commence operations on 1 February, introducing a hub-and-spoke network aimed at improving reliability and connectivity in global shipping.
The network, featuring 57 services and 340 vessels, is expected to achieve a schedule reliability of more than 90% by mid-2025. It will contribute to sustainability by optimising vessel speeds and reducing emissions.
Due to security concerns, routes will initially bypass the Red Sea and sail via the Cape of Good Hope. Bookings for the new network are now open. (pb)
