Saving fuel with antifouling
The Taiwanese shipping company Wan Hai has achieved an 8% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions using Nippon Paint Marine's antifouling products A-LF-Sea and Fastar.
This improvement aligns with the shipping industry's need to decarbonise and comply with stringent regulations like CII and EEXI. A-LF-Sea, applied to 20 vessels, uses hydrogel technology for a smoother hull, reducing hydrodynamic drag.
Fastar, used for ten vessels, adds nano-binder technology to the mix for precise performance. Wan Hai is also considering Nippon Paint Marine's Aquaterras, a biocide-free paint that can further reduce fuel consumption by 10%. Nippon Paint Marine's coatings have been applied to over 4,000 vessels. (pb)
