"RMS Ruhrort": ready for methanol fuel

Rhenus Maritime Services (RMS), a global logistics specialist, is introducing the “RMS Ruhror”, a coastal ready to use methanol as a future fuel. While it currently operates with a diesel engine, the vessel is designed to meet the latest technical standards for current and future CO2 benchmarks.

RMS purchased the “RMS Ruhrort” as a shell construction, which is now being fitted out in a Turkish shipyard. The vessel features a low-emission Mitsubishi diesel engine that's methanol-ready, offering a more environmentally friendly option when the shipping industry transitions to alternative fuels.

Other eco-friendly measures, such as a propeller nozzle and special paint, are also included to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency. After sea trials, the “RMS Ruhrort” will transport dry goods globally and can serve niche markets like the river Rhine. (pb)
