Rail siding improves access for bulk trains

Transport for NSW has completed an AUD 11.7 million (EUR 6.98 million) extension to the existing rail siding in Coolamon, making the shipment of crops and other produce in the Riverina region of NSW Australia much easier.

Located about 40 km north-west of the town Wagga Wagga, the Coolamon siding has been extended from 920 m to 1,530 m, providing more efficient access for modern freight trains that are up to 1,500 m in length.

The Coolamon siding extension will increase the capacity, access, and reliability of the region’s rail network to transport local canola, wheat, barley, oats, and other cereals. Bulk freight trains move most of the region’s grain harvest to NSW ports, resulting in rail corridor operations of around 1,500 trains per year. (ben)
