Plan B for "Ever Forward"

Since the “Ever Forward” ran aground after the ship left Baltimore on 13 March 2022, the Evergreen Line is continuing its efforts to refloat the stranded ship. In light of the increasing costs arising from these efforts, Evergreen declared general average on 31 March 2022.

The “Ever Forward”, a 12,000 teu container ship owned by Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong), a subsidiary of Evergreen Marine Corporation, still lays aground in the Chesapeake Bay. So far, there are no reports of injuries or damage to the ship or its cargo and no indication of fuel leakage or pollution. The grounding occurred outside the shipping channel and the vessel has not been blocking navigation since.

The US American Coast Guard spoke of a revised strategy to refloat the “Ever Forward”, and the second attempt to get the grounded container ship out of Chesapeake Bay could take more than two weeks. Two attempts to refloat Ever Forward on March 29 and 30 proved to be unsuccessful. (sh)
