NYK banking on Indonesian energy

It is a strategic agreement. The Japanese carrier NYK has now reached a basic agreement allowing it to invest in PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), a shipping subsidiary of the oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) based in Indonesia. The parties are planning to conclude a specific investment agreement and complete the transaction by the end of 2022.

Pertamina is the largest state-owned oil and gas company in Indonesia. NYK has already been collaborating with PIS in managing ships for energy transports. The Japanese player’s experience with LNG (liquefied natural gas) transportation also played a role in the partners’ decision to go ahead with the investment.

The cooperation will include solutions associated with crude oil, petroleum products, LNG transportation, floating storage, and regasification units (FSRUs). NYK and PIS also intend to collaborate on carbon capture and storage (CCS). (sh)
