New keel-laying ceremony at FSG

At the traditional keel-laying ceremony at Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), CEO of FSG-Nobiskrug Holding Philipp Maracke, CEO Searoad Chas Kelly, technical marine manager Searoad Tony Johnson, and the youngest apprentice of FSG Dustin Lind, hammered the nails into the keel plate, as a way of showing their cooperation.

With the funding of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the new ro-ro ship will sail on the Bass Strait between the island of Tasmania and Australia and will transport cargo with a weight of up to 100 t, while the vessel itself weighs more than 154 t.

According to Philipp Maracke, the newest collaboration with Searoad indicates that they all have the ability and the “technological know-how” to develop future vessels. Before hammering the nails into the keel plate, a coin was placed under it for good fortune: for the vessel and for their partnership. (lh)
