MPCC and NCL welcome first dual-fuel newbuilding

MPC Container Ships, together with North Sea Container Line and Elkem, has inaugurated the ‘NCL Vestland’ in Haugesund (Norway).

The 1,300 teu feeder is the first of two dual-fuel vessels MPCC will welcome in 2025. Operating between Norway and Rotterdam, it’s been chartered out to NCL for 15 years, backed by long-term agreements, including one with Elkem.

The ‘NCL Vestland’ is MPCC’s first methanol-capable vessel, supporting the creation of a green transport corridor in Northern Europe. CEO Constantin Baack highlighted the project’s role in advancing decarbonisation through strong partnerships.

The ship is part of MPCC’s emissions reduction strategy, aiming to lower the line’s carbon footprint, extend charters and secure its ability to compete. Another dual-fuel vessel will follow later this year. (ah)
