More investment on the Gotthard axis
Switzerland’s government has released around CHF 80 million to implement railway projects, which will enable SBB to further enhance services on the Gotthard axis with construction projects, among other things.
Specifically, the Swiss Railways is planning track upgrades between Maroggia and Melano in the canton of Ticino and new switch connections in the freight transport facilities in Chiasso to ensure stable operations with long goods trains.
According to the federal office of transport, the funds will also enable SBB to improve the performance of the Lausanne-Biel-Olten line and carry out route conversions in Romont to increase capacity. (ben)
