KTZ to augment transit capacity in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan railways (KTZ) is accelerating the development of its terminal network, aiming to raise cargo volumes and, most importantly, to guarantee the stability of transport prices, the company said.
KZT currently uses five terminals, including China's largest dry port in Xi'an, which supplies 40% of the cargo of the total volume of container trains. In 2025, the carrier plans to complete the construction of five more terminals, followed by four terminals in 2026.
Container transit traffic has grown by 30% over three years - from 1 million in 2021 to 1.3 million teu, according to estimates for 2024. With the opening of the new terminals in Kazakhstan, cargo volumes will increase annually, KTZ said. (ben)
