IPR violations from China and HK
US Customs and Border Protection officers at the port of Birmingham AL have seized 200,000 counterfeit US Forever Stamps from Hong Kong, with a retail value of USD 146,000.
The fraudulent stamps were discovered at a local sorting facility, where officers selected two suspicious packages for inspection. While the contents initially appeared authentic, further examination confirmed they were counterfeit and violated several intellectual property laws.
CBP officers play a key role in protecting consumers and businesses from counterfeit goods, which pose risks to the economy and public trust. Counterfeiting remains a global issue, with China and Hong Kong accounting for around 90% of all of the CBP’s intellectual property rights seizures in FY24. CBP continues to work with Homeland Security investigations and US postal inspectors to stop illicit imports and safeguard legitimate trade. (ah)
