Investments in Brake port

At the port of Brake in Lower Saxony, around EUR 8.4 million has been budgeted for investments and EUR 4.9 million for maintenance in 2021. The Europe-wide tender procedure was concluded last year, and pile-driving work for the first large ship berth at the south pier can begin in Q2/2021.

Ships will be able to use berths 1 and 2 more flexibly when all work has been completed in 2022. Eight switches will be replaced and three tracks renewed on the approximately 33 km long rail track network in the port.

A permanent task involves dredging to enable ships with a draught of up to 11.9 m (depending on the tide) to berth safely in the port, and a concept is currently being developed for the use of hydrogen in the port and its logistics services. (cd)
