Integrating solar and shore power systems
Asyaport, Turkey’s largest container terminal, has launched the nation’s first onshore power supply (OPS) system for container vessels, marking a major step in decarbonising maritime logistics.
This system supplies high-voltage power to berthed vessels, reducing emissions during cargo operations and enhancing Asyaport’s commitment to sustainability. Developed primarily by Turkish engineers with a USD 10 million investment, OPS supports two mainline and three feeder vessels simultaneously. The system's first customer was “MSC Oscar”, a 20,000 teu capacity vessel.
Alongside OPS, Asyaport uses solar power to meet 6% of its energy needs and is planning further renewable energy projects to boost environmental sustainability in the Tekirdağ region. (pb)
