Infrastructure measures bolster safety and efficiency
Norfolk Southern Railways completed infrastructure improvements worth USD 1 billion in 2024 in its US network. The projects were completed throughout the class I railway’s 22-state network and are designed to deliver safe and resilient services.
The railway’s engineering team completed a diverse range of infrastructure projects, including safety infrastructure, communications and signals as well as track, bridge and structural work.
Norfolk Southern replaced 900 track kilometres of rail, installed 2.1 million cross ties, replaced 30,480 bridge ties and 43 bridges and rehabilitated 78 bridges structurally in the improvement programme. (ben)
