Grimaldi Group completes GG5G fleet
The Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the ‘Eco Napoli’, the final vessel in its 14-ship Grimaldi Green 5th Generation (GG5G) fleet.
Built by the Jinling Shipyard in China, the hybrid ro-ro ship is among the most eco-friendly in shortsea shipping. With a capacity for 7,800 line metres of rolling freight, the ‘Eco Napoli’ doubles the cargo load of previous models, whilst maintaining the same fuel consumption, cutting CO₂ emissions per unit transported by 50%. The vessel features lithium batteries, solar panels and advanced exhaust gas cleaning systems.
“With the arrival of the ‘Eco Napoli’ our GG5G fleet is complete. These hybrid vessels have transformed shortsea transport in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe,” said managing director Emanuele Grimaldi. The ship will enter service in May, enhancing routes between Turkey, Greece and Italy. (ah)
