Grangemouth receives dual-rail hub
The Scottish Port of Grangemouth has completed and opened a multimillion EUR railfreight hub with the arrival DRS’s Aberdeen freight train service.
The new facility increases the capacity at Scotland’s largest port and includes a direct rail link to the port’s busy container terminal.
The extended hub has a dual rail siding of 775 m – previously 200 m – and can handle the longest freight trains on the UK network. It is the first railfreight terminal to offer this and provide enhanced container / domestic intermodal options.
Existing services link Grangemouth and its sister port in Tilbury on the Thames with a connection through Daventry. (ben)
