Good start for hydrogen at Gebrüder Weiss

After a one-year introductory period, GW’s first hydrogen truck has passed its acid test. The transport and logistics provider now deploys a Hyundai Xcient fuel cell lorry, which is stationed in Altenrhein (Switzerland), for daily short-distance general cargo transports.

Drawing its power from a fuel cell, the electric motor maintains its performance even on uphill roads. With this new technology the commercial vehicle is expected to save about 80 t of CO2 emissions per year.

Since Gebrüder Weiss took it over in January 2021, the truck has already covered around 70,000 km. The tank content of 32 kg of hydrogen is refuelled in twelve minutes and provides an average daily performance of 430 km. (cd)
