G&W’s short line to handle services for UP

Union Pacific (UP) is transferring its local service in Eugene Yard, Oregon, to Genesee & Wyoming (G&W)'s Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad (Corp).

The change allows the US class I railway to reduce the number of times a railcar is handled and improve efficiency, while providing more flexibility and agility for both railways to meet current customer needs and anticipated growth. The new solution is subject to approval by the surface transportation board.

According to UP, its staff who deliver goods over longer distances will continue to work out of Eugene Yard. For other employees, the carrier is exploring continued employment opportunities, including potential openings at Corp or other G&W railroads. (ben)
