Former FAA chief joins ZeroAvia
Hydrogen-electric aviation pioneer ZeroAvia has appointed Billy Nolen, former acting administrator of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as senior strategy and regulatory advisor. Nolen will support the company’s certification efforts for its 600kW electric propulsion system and ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain.
ZeroAvia recently received an FAA G-1 issue paper for its 600kW system and is working with the UK CAA on certifying ZA600. Nolen, a former airline pilot and safety executive, will split his time between ZeroAvia and Archer Aviation, where he serves as chief regulatory affairs officer.
“Billy’s expertise on safety and the regulatory landscape will be a big advantage as we seek certification,” said ZeroAvia CEO Val Miftakhov.
ZeroAvia is also advancing its ZA2000 powertrain for regional airlines, including the ATR72 and Dash 8. (ah)
