First containers for HCT

Canadian National Railway (CN), New Hamilton Rail Terminal (HCT) and the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (Hopa Ports) have created a direct intermodal rail service between Hamilton, ON and Montreal, QC. Carrying export-bound shipping containers, the inaugural train completed its journey recently.

With the planned introduction of a regular weekly service, the partners expect to gradually increase volumes through the new terminal, pending the approval of the Canadian Border Services Agency for bonded movements. With new terminal, they hope to expand supply chain capacity in southern Ontario, reduce truck movements and cut the emissions of greenhouse gases. (ben)
