EV maker banks on US short line railroad

Georgia Central Railway, a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming, will serve a new, dedicated electric vehicle (EV) and battery-manufacturing facility in Bryan County, Georgia, for Hyundai Motor Group.

The USD 5.5 billion project is scheduled to begin commercial production in H1/2025, with the Georgia Central providing rail transportation of inbound materials to support production as well as outbound finished vehicles to markets across USA.

Georgia Central Railway operates over 340 km from Macon to Savannah. The class III railroad is one of twelve G&W freight railroads serving the state of Georgia, and one of its 116 owned or leased freight railroads. (ben)
