Developing sustainable shipping corridors

The Port Authority of Bilbao and Portsmouth International Port have signed an MOU to collaborate on developing green and digital shipping corridors. The partners seek to boost freight and passenger transport between their ports, focusing on sustainable, efficient, and speedy operations. The agreement includes sharing information and jointly promoting sustainable shipping routes.

Bilbao's Bilbops project, with a EUR 78 million investment, aims to electrify docks for renewable electricity and is co-funded by the EU. With its sea change initiative, Portsmouth will operate an onshore power system at its docks.

Both ports plan to enhance efficiency, security, and traceability in goods and vessel management through advanced systems and automation. The MOU was ratified by representatives from both ports, with attendees from the British embassy and British consulate in Spain. (pb)
