CN: back on track after protesters stop blockades

Canadian National Railways (CN) has started calling back most of the temporarily laid off employees based in Eastern Canada after the lifting of significant illegal blockades on its network over the last days. Over 1,400 trains were delayed or cancelled because of the blockades, causing shutdowns of parts of CN’s network as freight is parked across the network, ready to be moved.

In Western Canada, the railway company has been also well on its way to recovering, but the complete network recovery process will take several weeks, said CN.

With blockades across Canada, protestors showed their solidarity for the Wet'suwet'en Nation, whose hereditary chiefs oppose the construction of a natural gas pipeline through northern British Columbia. (ben)
