Centralising distribution in Madrid

Siemens Logistics, a subsidiary of the Siemens Group in Constance, Germany, has won a contract from parcel service provider GLS Spain. The order covers the design, integration and commissioning of parcel sorting technology for a new GLS logistics centre in Madrid.

In response to increasing parcel volumes, GLS Spain decided to centralise its activities in the strategically important capital region. The new parcel hub will be part of the Madrid Gate Logistics Centre, located near Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

The facilities will be built on an area of more than 75,000 sqm. Siemens Logistics will install a high-performance sorting system with a throughput of up 50,000 parcels per hour for shipments of various formats and weight classes. The facility is expected to be completed by spring 2023. (sh)
