CBP recovers stolen machinery bound for Guinea

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Norfolk, Virginia, successfully seized six pieces of stolen heavy equipment valued at over USD 200,000, initially taken from a rental company in Massachusetts. The equipment, which included a Bobcat skid steer, a Kubota backhoe, and other machinery, was discovered in a container en route to Guinea.

CBP officers identified the container in Newark, and with the assistance of their counterparts in Algeciras, Spain, inspected and confirmed the theft. The container was returned to Norfolk, and on 15 October, the equipment was handed over to Virginia state police for its return to the rightful owners. An investigation is ongoing. (pb)
