Canadian airport reports second-best cargo year


Halifax Stanfield (YHZ) processed 36,979 t of cargo in 2022, up 6.4% from 2021 and up 12.1% from 2020. The value of products exported from the airport in 2022 was CAD 540 million (EUR 367 million, up 8.9% from 2021 and up 15.8% from 2020. Volume and value surpassed 2018 levels, making it the second-best year on record for cargo activity at YHZ.

 

Joyce Carter, president & CEO, Halifax International Airport Authority: "This demonstrates that our focus on growing air cargo capabilities has resulted in benefits to the airport, the community we serve, and the industry."

 

Sixteen air carriers transported goods to domestic, US, European, and Asian markets. The top export by volume (16,422 t) and value (CAD 321 million) was Nova Scotia seafood, primarily live lobster. Other top exports were industrial and electrical machinery. (ah)
