Biogas lorries on scheduled services

The German logistics group Zufall has recently started using biogas lorries on scheduled transport services in Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. The four Iveco vehicles were purchased by Zufall partners AY Trans and Sari and are now on the road for Zufall Logistik.

By using the biogas trucks, CO₂ emissions, fine dust pollution and noise emissions can be significantly reduced. Despite government subsidies, biogas trucks are around EUR 30,000 more expensive than comparable diesel trucks. A financial incentive, however, is the three-year toll exemption for trucks of this type.

To compensate for the additional costs of purchasing the vehicles, Zufall Logistik grants its transport companies AY Trans and Sari a contribution to the costs per tour. (ben)
